CAUTION WARRANTED (61% Downside Risk)

MARKET SNAPSHOT

S&P 500 (SPY): $771.35 (+0.54% daily, +0.54% weekly) NASDAQ (QQQ): $744.50 (+0.46%) VIX: 14.87 10-Yr Yield: 5.18% Gold (GLD): $393.41 Fear & Greed Index: 37 (Fear)

THE SETUP

ES is down 0.3% and NQ is down 0.6% from Friday’s close, putting technology under greater pressure ahead of Monday’s open. Friday’s session was positive, with SPY gaining 0.54% to $771.35 and QQQ advancing 0.46% to $744.50, but the weak pre-open tape and sharply bearish small-cap gauge indicate that participation remains uneven. The TRH verdict is MARKET VALUE INTACT — TEMPORARY DIPS, with P* at 29% and the desk rung HIGH (held) · P* in the ELEVATED band, so dips are expected to be temporary while the Level-Map invalidation holds, but risk remains elevated into the next tier-1 release. The market is structurally defensive under Phase 3 while tactically resilient, making gradual positioning and confirmation more appropriate for the model books than chasing early-session reversals.

BULLISH TAILWINDS (39% Probability)

• The Fear & Greed Index stands at 37, leaving sentiment in fear territory and creating a potential contrarian tailwind if price pressure fails to accelerate.

• SPY closed Friday at $771.35, comfortably above the $733 upper boundary of the identified correction band, preserving substantial room before deeper technical damage develops.

• QQQ gained 0.46% on Friday and carries a bullish proprietary gauge of 62.8, materially stronger than SPY’s neutral 51.9 reading and IWM’s strongly bearish 34.3 reading.

• Upcoming-quarter S&P 500 earnings expectations are 19.9% above the year-ago period, with 75% of companies expected to post growth and consensus estimates rising 0.3 percentage points over the past 30 days.

BEARISH FAULT LINES (61% Probability)

• ES is down 0.3% and NQ is down 0.6% from Friday’s close, indicating that Monday’s opening pressure is concentrated in growth and technology.

• The HIGH desk rung remains held under the hysteresis rule, and only one of the two required confirming sessions has occurred for an easing to the ELEVATED rung.

• Volatility remains subdued at 14.87 even as the 10-year Treasury yield holds at 5.18%, creating complacency risk if higher yields begin to compress equity valuations.

• Market breadth remains weak, with 43 assets classified as bearish against 40 classified as bullish or strongly bullish, while PCE on September 30 and the Employment Situation report on October 2 provide potential volatility triggers.

TACTICAL POSITIONING

The illustrative model books remain defensively composed under Phase 3, while the TRH read limits the pace and size of new risk rather than treating the current weakness as a confirmed breakdown. Exposure is built gradually in this regime, with preference given to relative-strength holdings and liquid reserves while broad participation remains uneven.

The live Elite portfolio remains the predecessor edition until the October 2 rebuild. If the current governor state persists into that cut, the AB Portfolio v2 rules map to the DEFENSIVE allocation of 50% growth, 20% WEEK, 10% income and 20% protection, with any unconfirmed protection allocation resting in WEEK.

The model books use smaller position sizes into Wednesday’s PCE release and do not initiate leveraged exposure into Friday’s NFP session. Risk controls remain centered on breadth confirmation, the behavior of QQQ around Friday’s close and whether SPY continues to hold above the correction-band boundary.

KEY MONITORING METRICS

• S&P 500: Support is at $733, while $771.35 is the immediate resistance and reference level; a sustained break below support would weaken the temporary-dips thesis, while a firm recovery above Friday’s close would improve near-term momentum.

• VIX: The near-term floor is 14.13 and the ceiling is 15.61; a move below the floor would indicate continued volatility suppression, while a break above the ceiling would show that pre-open weakness is gaining traction.

• NASDAQ: QQQ has support at $707.28 and an immediate pivot at $744.50; holding the pivot would preserve technology leadership, while movement toward support would confirm a broader growth unwind.

• 10-Year Treasury yield: The 5.18% Friday level is the key valuation threshold, with a sustained move above it likely to pressure long-duration equities and reinforce the defensive rotation.

CONTRARIAN FRAMEWORK VERDICT

Fear readings and strong earnings expectations argue against treating every decline as the start of a durable bear leg, but weak breadth, subdued volatility and a heavy data calendar prevent an aggressive contrarian stance. The model books therefore remain defensively allocated, preserve liquidity and require confirmation before increasing beta, with no new leverage initiated into Friday’s NFP release.
